Happy May Friends! With summer right around the corner, it is the perfect time to start looking for great books to read while you are relaxing by the pool, to take with you to camp or to just enjoy on those lazy summer days. That is why I am so excited to be working with Miss O & Friends to bring you an awesome “Must Have” for May! This fantastic book is called “To Night Owl From Dog Fish” by Holly Goldberg Sloan and Meg Wolitzer and it is all about the ups and downs of families and friendships.

“To Night Owl From Dogfish” is centered around two girls, Bett Devlin (Dogfish) and Avery Bloom (Night Owl), who are secretly set up by their dads to go to summer camp so that they will become friends. These 12-year-old girls are complete opposites. Bett is outdoorsy, adventures and a bit of a daredevil. Avery is completely different from Bett. She loves writing, poetry, studying, and being indoors. She is also terrified of the water with a major fear of drowning.

When Bett’s and Avery’s fathers meet in Chicago, they begin a relationship. With them both having 12-year-old daughters, they want the girls to get to know each other, so they devise a plan to send them to the same summer camp, while they have their own adventure around China. When Bett reads her dad’s email and finds out about the plan, she secretly contacts Avery to let her know. The girls email back and forth and promise each other they will not talk or meet, but just email. That plan changes when they do end up meeting at the camp. Their bond grows, when a secret is shared on Family Day and Avery gets an unexpected visit from someone she has not seen in a long time. As the girls get to know each other even more and the thought of them being sisters is more appealing by the minute, they are crushed when their dads get home from China with terrible news.

With a bit of a “Parent Trap” feel to it along with a twist, “To Night Owl From Dogfish” is a definite must read. It will keep you entertained and wondering what will happen next the entire time. Told almost entirely through emails, this heartfelt book is full of so many moments where you will laugh and others where you might cry. It is such a great book, I could hardly put it down!!

When summer camp is over for Bett and Avery, what will happen with their friendship, since they live so far apart? Will they even be able to stay friends? You will have to read “To Night Owl From Dog Fish” to find out! I just know you will love this book as much as I did!
Thanks for stopping by my blog! Happy Reading!
XOXO, Sidney Grace
