Hi Friends! I have recently started doing some book reviews for the awesome Miss O & Friends and I am going to start sharing them here on my blog, too! Hope you enjoy!
If you are looking for a heartwarming story about family, then do I have the perfect book for you! “Love Like Sky” by Leslie C. Youngblood is an amazing, realistic fiction story that is all about how separated families can be brought back together in a time of need. This book is well written and the story flows really well!
“Love Like Sky” is centered around G-Baby, who is the narrator of the story, because the book is written in first person. G-Baby is an 11-year-old girl, who is very adventurous and cares so much for her little sister Peaches. She would do anything for Peaches like share her bedroom, even though Peaches has her own room, too! As a 6-year-old, Peaches is very funny! She is always joking around and doing these silly dances, which are so uncool! Peaches is good at keeping secrets for G-Baby and is very loyal to her. Their parents are divorced and have both remarried. Their dad is married to Millicent, who G-Baby calls “Millipede” and their mom is married to a man named Frank. Frank was married before and has two daughters from his previous marriage ~ Tangie and Morgan. Tangie is a teenager and does not want G-Baby and Peaches in her house, so she tries to avoid them as much as possible. Tangie is also misunderstood, especially after what happened with Morgan.
I loved how the characters seemed to come alive while I was reading this book! As I was reading, I often felt like I was sitting with G-Baby and Peaches or Tangie and Frank. The author did such a great job of drawing me in and making me feel like I was part of the story. At times, I laughed and at other times, I cried. The author did such an amazing job of telling their story and keeping me engaged the whole time. With each page I turned, I was more intrigued by every word.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves heartfelt moments, a little drama between characters, but who ultimately enjoys feeling the love between sisters and their families. I would also give “Love Like Sky” a 5-Star rating! It was wonderfully written and kept my attention the whole time. I had a hard time putting it down! I absolutely LOVED it!
This book is called “Love Like Sky”, because of a moment between Peaches and G-Baby. Peaches learned that love is just like the sky and it can never run out. You will definitely feel so much love between the characters in this book and if you are anything like me, you will look at the sky differently, too. Each time I look up now, I am reminded of this book and how love is as big and endless as the sky and it, too, will never run out.
